The Palm Beach County Sports Commission is announcing the creation of the inaugural Holiday Basketball Classic of the Palm Beaches, which is slated to take place from December 28-30.  This event, which is owned by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, is poised to become an annual tradition and a signature sports event for Palm Beach County.  The Holiday Basketball Classic of the Palm Beaches is a national high school invitational tournament and participating teams are selected from across the nation.

The Holiday Basketball Classic of the Palm Beaches will feature 32 teams, comprised of 16 boys’ teams and 16 girls’ teams, competing in a single elimination game format.  Consolation games will be included, which provides each team a minimum guarantee of three (3) games.  This tournament will be divided into the National Championship Division and the American Challenge Division.  Approximately 400 athletes in addition to students and alumni from across the nation will travel to Palm Beach County during the holiday weekend.

The Holiday Basketball Classic of the Palm Beaches is a countywide event and will take place at  Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach, Olympic Heights High School in Boca Raton, William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, and Palm Beach Gardens High School.   A minimum of four (4) games will take place each tournament day at each of the venues.

The Holiday Basketball Classic of the Palm Beaches will generate national media exposure for Palm Beach County while providing a significant tourism boost to the local hospitality community.   The influx of visitors will increase hotel occupancy and provide a positive economic impact.

High School teams from New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, Texas, Georgia, and Florida have accepted invitations.  Teams from more states will follow.    The list of participating teams includes some of the premier high school basketball programs and players in the nation.

“To see a vision come to reality is truly amazing. Without the help of the local basketball community and the host schools as well as their coaches this event could not have come to fruition.  I would be remiss not to mention the dedication of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission staff who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes.  We believe this will not only be a signature event for Palm Beach County but a National Tournament that will garner tremendous interest for years to come", said  Jeff Zipper, Chair of  the Holiday Basketball Classic of the Palm Beaches Committee.

The official event schedule will be posted at www.HBCpalmbeaches.com  by November 10, 2016.  Tickets will be available to purchase online in advance (check the website for availability) or at each site on game day.
