There’s lots to cheer about in Daytona Beach. The NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship, the single largest collegiate cheer and dance event in the world, celebrated its 40th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the event being hosted in Daytona Beach April 7-11 2021.
On Friday, April 9, National Cheer Association (NCA) and National Dance Association (NDA) Senior Vice President Bill Boggs presented the iconic NCA Megaphone Trophy to Commissioner Quanita May, City of Daytona Beach, and Heather Post, Volusia County Council District 4 Representative, in appreciation for the partnership, support and dedication shown to the Collegiate Championship for the last 25 years.
“Daytona Beach has proven to be the perfect home for our Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship. Our teams, staff, corporate partners and spectators absolutely love the city and its beautiful beaches and venues. This year especially, Daytona Beach helped to make our championship safe and accommodating for all those in attendance…Thank You!” said Bill Boggs, senior vice president and director of NCA & NDA College Programs.
Since assisting with the initial recruitment and eventual relocation to Daytona Beach in 1996, the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has seen the event grow substantially. The 5-day event now attracts more than 7,000 thousand competitors from top colleges and universities, along with their coaching staff and families, to compete for the national title each year in April.
“Daytona Beach offers groups like NCA & NDA a combination of high-quality accommodations and unique indoor and outdoor venues – the Ocean Center Convention Complex, historic oceanfront Bandshell, the Boardwalk, and Peabody Auditorium – all within walking distance of one another and set against the picturesque backdrop of the ‘World’s Most Famous Beach,’ said Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Lori Campbell Baker.
"The Ocean Center values our long-standing relationship with NCA & NDA and was thrilled to celebrate 25 years of competition in Daytona Beach," said Ocean Center Director Tim Riddle. "We're grateful Varsity chose this location for such a positive event that brings thousands of visitors to our area each year. We look forward to hosting this prestigious competition for years to come!"
