Miami to Host Tennis Owners & Managers Conference

Miami Pro Open Tennis Tournament to be Held at Same Time

Tennis club and facility owners and managers should reserve their spot now for the 2016 Tennis Owners and Managers (T.O.M.) Conference, which will be March 23-25 at the Hilton Miami Downtown during the Miami Open pro tennis tournament.

This third annual TIA conference will bring together leading experts in facility management, programming and other key areas to provide vital information to grow tennis businesses and bring in more tennis players.

Key speakers to date include Dr. Jack Groppel, co-founder of the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute; former top-ranked pro and current tennis announcer Cliff Drysdale, founder of Cliff Drysdale Tennis management company and a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame; Hall-of-Famer Gigi Fernandez, a former world No. 1-ranked doubles player and doubles champion at all four Grand Slams; French Open and US Open doubles winner Emilio Sanchez, also a former world No. 1-ranked doubles player and owner of Academia Sanchez-Casal-Florida; tennis industry veteran and former Tennis Industry Association (TIA) President Jim Baugh, the founder of PHIT America; and internationally known management consultant Dr. Gerald Faust, among other management and business consultants.

Industry speakers include USTA Director of Youth Play and Competition Craig Jones; PTR CEO Dan Santorum; USPTA CEO John Embree; Randy Futty, vice president of business development for California Sports Surfaces; Pat Hanssen, general manager of Har-Tru; Lee Sponaugle, national sales director of Sport Court; Virgil Christian, USTA senior director of market/facility development; and Scott Schultz, managing director of USTA University.

“Tennis facilities and clubs are where the rubber meets the road in this industry—where players hit the courts and buy the products and services that help keep not only tennis businesses moving forward, but the entire sport as well,” says TIA Executive Director Jolyn de Boer.

The T.O.M. Conference also will feature a Tennis Tech Fair & Resource Center, which will give tennis facility/club owners and managers an opportunity to learn more about and try out the latest products that can engage members and players and help them manage and run their businesses more effectively. In addition, there will be an “Idea Fair” workshop that will include expert panelists, along with suggestions from the wealth of knowledge among T.O.M. Conference attendees, all with the goal of increasing profits and participation.

Held in conjunction with the T.O.M. Conference will be the State of the Industry Forum, which will be 10 to 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23. At the Forum, industry executives will present the latest news and data about the state of the tennis industry, including participation research, consumer and technology trends, tennis marketplace data, an update on the “Rally the Family” initiative, and updates from the U.S. Tennis Association.
