USA Triathlon announced that the 30th Annual Great Floridian Triathlon has been designated the 2020 USA Triathlon National Ultra-Distance Championship. An ultra-distance triathlon, or full distance triathlon as it is often called, features a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run.  The race is scheduled for October 24, 2020, at the World Triathlon Destination, Clermont, FL.

Now in its 29th year, the Great Floridian Triathlon (GFT) is the nation’s longest running independent (non-Ironman licensed) full distance triathlon. Since its inception in 1991, the GFT has attracted athletes from all 50 states and more than 30 countries. The GFT is known around the world for being one of the most challenging full distance races in the country. The tremendous support offered by the City of Clermont, Lake County, neighboring communities, and local residents and businesses, ensure a world class race experience with small town charm.

The Great Floridian Triathlon is the marquee event within the Floridian Multisport Festival.  The festival includes multiple triathlon distances including a duathlon and aqua bike options that run concurrently with the GFT.  This year’s festival is scheduled for October 19, 2019.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to host the USA Triathlon Ultra-Distance National Championship during the 30th running of the Great Floridian Triathlon”, exclaimed Fred Sommer, event founder and long-time race director. “The national championship designation is a testament to the event’s rich history and longevity, the strong community support, and the passion of the event management team.”

Registration for the October 24, 2020 event is open.  Event details can be found at www.GreatFloridianTriathlon.com
