Florida Sets Forth Schedule for 2019 Senior Games

Registration is now open for the 2019 Florida Senior Games, presented by Humana, being held December 6-15 in Greater Fort Lauderdale and Broward County.
Senior athletes, age 50 and over, can find registration and competition information for the 23 sports of the 28th Annual Florida Senior Games at www.floridaseniorgames.com.  Entry fees vary by sport as the online registration deadline is set for November 17.  Individual event information can be accessed in the on each of the respective sports’ pages on the site and can be requested by sending an email to games@flasports.com.

A qualifying performance at the Florida Senior Games Local Series qualifier is necessary for state of Florida athletes wishing to compete in Basketball Shooting, Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Pickleball, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Track & Field.

Multiple Florida Senior Games Series Qualifiershave already taken place this past spring.  The fall qualifiers begin September 6 with the Pensacola Senior Games kicking off the fall calendar’s slate of 10 qualifier events.

Open sports of the Florida Senior Games not requiring a qualifying performance include Archery, Bag Toss, Basketball (3-on-3), Billiards, Team Bowling, Dominoes, Powerlifting, Power Walk, Race Walk, Racquetball, Road Race, Tai Chi, and Volleyball.

“Each year, the Florida Senior Games, presented by Humana, continues to provide athletes age 50 and over the opportunity to carry out an active lifestyle while challenging themselves to achieve a goal or results in a sport or event of their choice,” said Marvin E. Green, Jr., Vice President of Amateur Sports.  “The Games continually advocate for the opportunity for our athletes to renew old friendships they have made over time, engage in the Olympic-spirit, and share the camaraderie made possible through competition.”

The 2019 Florida Senior Games are the first of two Senior Games being held in Broward County as the 2020 Games will also take place in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area.  In just two short years, the 2021 National Senior Games will also be held in Fort Lauderdale, giving Florida-based athletes two years to assimilate to the weather conditions, venues, and competitors from the Sunshine State.

The 2018 Florida Senior Games, presented by Humana, attracted just over 2,500 athletes during the nine days of competition in the Clearwater/Pinellas County region.  Since the Games inception in 1992, nearly 52,000 senior athletes have competed in the Florida Senior Games.

The Florida Senior Games Rules of Competitionare prepared for the Florida Senior Games and based upon the rules set forth by the National Senior Games Association (NSGA), Florida Sports Foundation, and the recognized National Governing Body for each sport.
For the Senior Games, however, some sport rules have been modified and/or revised in the best interest of the competitors. These rules of competition have been approved by FSF and NSGA.
