Get ready for 33 days and 235 Florida Spring Training Baseball games between Friday, February 21 and Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

Major League Baseball’s annual pilgrimage to Florida begins with three games on Friday, February 21 with the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins taking the field against college teams with local connections, either from their hometown city or spring training home city.

On Saturday, February 22, a full schedule of games features eight games with all 15 Florida Grapefruit League teams.  Through Thursday, March 24, 235 games will be played in Florida between Major League teams.

The 2020 MLB regular season begins on Thursday, March 26.

Some highlights of the 2020 Florida Spring Training season feature an opening day matchup, on Saturday, February 22, between Sarasota County’s two teams, the Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves, at CoolToday Park, in North Port.  The Braves begin their first full season in North Port in 2020.

On Thursday, March 5, the last two Florida Spring Training teams to win the World Series will meet as 2017 Champion Houston Astros visit 2018 Champion Boston Red Sox at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers.

Eight games will be played on St. Patrick’s Day, always a popular day at the Florida Spring Training parks, on Tuesday, March 17.  Among the eight are the Toronto Blue Jays visiting the Philadelphia Phillies at Spectrum Field in Clearwater.

On St. Patrick’s Day 2019, the largest single-day crowd of the Florida Grapefruit League season, 11,340, were in attendance at Spectrum Field to see the Phillies host the New York Yankees.  The Phillies also had the largest single game attendance of the Florida Grapefruit League season on St. Patrick’s Day during the 2016-18 seasons.

For the nine games played on St. Patrick’s Day 2019, a total of 66,485 fans attended a Florida Spring Training game, the highest single day total of the season.

The season concludes on Tuesday, March 24 with two games.  The Pittsburgh Pirates against the Detroit Tigers at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, and the Atlanta Braves visiting the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers.

Since 2000, over 31 million fans have attended Florida Spring Training Games.  While Major League Baseball Spring Training dates back 1888 in the Sunshine State, Florida Grapefruit League games have been played every year in Florida since 1946.  The 2020 season will be the 75th consecutive season of MLB Spring Training Baseball in Florida.
