CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield to Take Over as Sponsor for Baltimore 10 Miler

Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced today CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) has signed on to serve as title sponsor of the Baltimore 10 Miler. WMAR ABC2, the Scripps owned ABC affiliate in Baltimore, will expand their live TV coverage from two (2) hours to three (3) for 2016.

The race will be held June 4, 2016, and will attract more than 7,000 runners.

One of Baltimore’s largest summer running events, the Baltimore 10 Miler starts and finishes on the picturesque front lawn of the Maryland Zoo Mansion House.

“Events like the Baltimore 10 Miler go hand-in-hand with CareFirst’s commitment to helping our members get healthier and stay healthy,” said Rita Costello, Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing at CareFirst. “Whether you run the Baltimore 10 Miler or walk every day, it all makes a difference.”

Lee Corrigan, president of CSE, said, “CareFirst’s support will allow us to provide our runners with one of the best premiums in the industry, and for the first time in the event’s history, a coveted finisher’s medal. ABC2’s live coverage will once again deliver prestige to Baltimore’s biggest summer running event.”

“In addition to showcasing the athletic endeavor of the race, our live programming last year shared numerous inspirational stories about participants and how the Baltimore community rallied around this event to welcome runners,” said Bill Hooper, WMAR ABC2’s Vice President & General Manager.  “By expanding our coverage to 3 live hours we will be able to highlight even more community based stories and give the numerous charitable beneficiaries of the event a great platform to share their missions.”

The Baltimore 10 Miler will once again benefit The Signal 13 Foundation and the zoo. The Signal 13 Foundation’s mission is to provide financial assistance to Baltimore Police Department personnel, both civilian and sworn, who unexpectedly suffer extreme personal emergencies. “The Baltimore 10 Miler is a flagship event for the Foundation,” said Greg Devou, Signal 13 Board President. “Not only is it a great opportunity to raise funds, but the public awareness generated thru officers also running in the event is immeasurable.  We are excited about the elevated status of the event and proud to partner with Corrigan Sports Enterprises”
