Geno Auriemma to hold 'Chalk Talk' in Newark on Sept. 11

Delaware youth and high school coaches are invited to attend an exclusive coaching event that will be led by legendary UConn head coach Geno Auriemma, who will be in town as part of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team showcase game at The Bob on Sept. 11.

The event will also include presentations by Dawn Staley (head coach of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks women’s team) and Doug Bruno (head coach of the DePaul Blue Demons women's basketball team), both also assistant coaches for the Women’s National Team. The coaching staff from the Delaware 87ers team will also be on hand.

The event will include exclusive access to the USA Women’s Basketball Team Shootaround, followed by a coaches’ networking event at Grotto Pizza on Main Street. The USA Basketball Red vs. White showcase game – which is open to the public -- is set to follow the clinic at 7 p.m. (tickets for the game are still available).

The coaching event is brought to you courtesy of the Slam Dunk to the Beach, set for Dec. 27-29 in Lewes.

“It’s fantastic to have coaches of this caliber come to Delaware, and even more exciting to have them share their knowledge with local coaches,” said Matt Robinson, chairman of the Delaware Sports Commission, which has worked to bring USA Basketball and the Slam Dunk to the Beach to Delaware. “The Sports Commission is excited to be able to provide this special opportunity to the Delaware basketball community.”

The 7 p.m. exhibition game will be shown on ESPN2, and could feature Delaware’s star player Elena Delle Donne, who is on the Women’s National Team roster and will be part of the intra-squad matchup unless her team is playing in the WNBA Finals. Regardless, the event will bring the nation’s top women’s basketball talent to Delaware.

Tickets to the exhibition game can be purchased through the Bob Carpenter Center box office, by calling 302-831-2257, or online via ticketmaster.com.
