SON Events, founded by Mark Knutson, director of Go Far Events and the Fargo Marathon, and John Magnuson, president of Mtec Results, has partnered with Warner Bros. to bring the DC Wonder Woman Run Series, a series of 5K and 10K road races to the United States.
Designed to empower the heroine in all, the Series will encourage runners and walkers of all abilities to harness their great powers and overcome any obstacle they encounter. It also opens the door for potential for other Warner Bros. movie-themed races in the future.
“This idea stemmed from a small race centered around one of the Warner Bros. movies in the fall of 2017, and it quickly morphed into an amazing opportunity to work with the professional teams at Warner Bros.” said Knutson. “We’re looking forward to new ways to marry the great imaginations of Warner Bros. with first-class road racing events and race directors to create an amazing experience for all participants.’
Added Magnuson, “We also see this as an opportunity to introduce non-running fans of Warner Bros. and its franchises to the world of running—helping us grow the industry that we all love and live in."
The DC Wonder Woman Run Series kicks off with a Saturday night race on September 22, in Sacramento, California. Additional Wonder Woman Run Series events for 2018 include:
- Oakland, California – Saturday night on October 13
- San Jose, California – TBA
- Los Angeles, California – Sunday morning on November 4
- San Diego, California – TBA
SON events is currently working on securing additional markets and race directors who wish to help grow the DC Wonder Woman Run Series to more than 20 locations, both domestic and international, in 2019.
Each event kicks off with an expo, where participants will be able to collect their race packets and bib numbers, as well as purchase exclusive Wonder Woman merchandise. On race day, the DC Wonder Woman Run Series will offer music and entertainment along each of the scenic course routes, which will wind through beautiful parks, historical sites, and vibrant residential areas. The one-of-a-kind race experience will culminate with a finish line festival for both participants and spectators.
