Race SLO, California Central Coast’s leading endurance sports event producer, and the California Military Department have partnered to launch an initiative to bring Californians and their military together in an interactive, fun and engaging setting. For the occasion, the California Military Department Foundation and Race SLO are introducing the inaugural Warrior Trail Run Adventure set for Friday and Saturday, March 23- 24, 2018 at Camp San Luis Obispo military base.

The Warrior Trail Run Adventure will offer the following events for all ages and abilities: 5K, 10K, 1 mile, military grade Challenge Obstacle towers, a team Leadership Reaction Challenge, an Environmental Legacy Hike up Cerro Romauldo and a Camp SLO Historical Legacy Tour. In addition, there will be a one-of-a-kind Overnight Military Challenge open to 100 participants on Friday, March 23. During the event, there will be a free California Warrior Festival open to the public. Camp SLO, established by the governor of California in 1928, is located on pristine lands 6-plus miles northwest of San Luis Obispo on State Route 1.

“We and the California Military Department Foundation are beyond excited about partnering to showcase this unique off-road event for the Central Coast and our Race SLO family,” said Samantha Pruitt, Race SLO Founder & CEO. “Put simply, this inaugural event will be like no other, challenging but fun for all levels as our participants truly connect to their inner California warrior!”

WEEKEND SUMMARY

Friday, March 23, 2018 - First-ever public Camp San Luis Obispo Overnight Military Challenge is limited to 100 interested participants (age 12 & over, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian).

Saturday, March 24, 2018: Events are as follows -

Warrior Trail Run options include chip-timed 5K & 10K and the Camp SLO Historical Legacy Tour & Environmental Legacy Hike. For the youngsters options include the 1 Mile Warrior Loop and the Little Warrior Rock Wall Challenge (Little Warrior dog tags included). Participants will navigate and experience Camp SLO’s striking hills, trails and training areas and more.

Challenge Obstacles include three military-grade challenges: High Ropes Course, Extreme Rock Wall and Ninja Tower. All are described as huge, harness-and-belay based monstrosities supervised by motivating Camp SLO personnel.

Reaction Course will be teams of 8-12 co-workers or friends and family who will practice the individual skills of leadership and teamwork in a series of 5 scenario-based puzzle obstacles, each with its own equipment, rules and limitations. The course is designed so that each individual on a team takes on a leadership role directing, communicating and problem solving a specific obstacle that requires both physical and mental skills to accomplish correctly. This exclusive and unique team challenge is perfectly geared for high performance teams from the workplace, athletic space or community groups and is limited to only 4 teams.

During the event, the free California Warrior Festival will offer exclusive access and insight into the world of the California Military Department. Connect with, and get to know the California Military Department in a fun, educational experience. Since 1850, the California Military Department has been committed to California. Today, they are proud to be changing the way Californians define “military”. Over food and friendship, with music in the background, guests are invited to celebrate the values, diversity and tenacity that have always made California – and her military – a trend-setting leader for others to follow.
