The 2015 NCAA Women's Rowing Championships begin Friday, May 29, at Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif. The three-day regatta hosted by the Pac-12 Conference, combines the championships of Divisions I, II and III women's rowing.
In Division I, The Ohio State University enters as two-time defending national champions. The Buckeyes, who earned an automatic berth by winning the 2015 Big Ten Rowing Championships, is seeded second in the varsity eight, sixth in the second varsity eight and fourth in the varsity four.
University of Washington earned the top seed for both the second varsity eight and varsity four. University of California received an automatic bid after winning the 2015 Pac-12 Rowing Championships, and enters as the top seed in the varsity eight.
Brown University, seeded fourth in the varsity eight, third in the second varsity eight and second in the varsity four, received an automatic berth from the 2015 Ivy League Women’s Rowing Championship, while University of Virginia earned an automatic berth after sweeping all five races at the 2015 ACC Rowing Championship.
In addition to Ohio State, Brown, California and Virginia, University of Central Florida, Gonzaga University, Jacksonville University, University of Massachusetts, United States Navel Academy, Northeastern University and University of Texas received automatic bids to the championships by winning their respective conferences.
Harvard-Radcliffe University, Indiana University, University of Michigan, University of Notre Dame, Princeton University, University of Southern California, Stanford University, Washington, Washington State University, University of Wisconsin and Yale University enter as at-large selections.
In Division II, defending national champion Humboldt State University enters the competition after receiving one of the four team bids.
The championship is composed of four teams required to field two crews—one eight and one four. In addition, there are two at-large eights selected that are not already represented in the team competition.
Barry University, the top-ranked team, earned an automatic bid to the championships. Humboldt State and Barry will be joined by Central Oklahoma University and Mercyhurst University, while Philadelphia University and Nova Southeastern University received at-large eights berths.
In Division III, Trinity College won the national title in 2014 over Williams College, that had won the past eight consecutive titles and nine overall.
Washington College, Bates College and Wellesley College received automatic qualification to the championships. They will be joined by Hamilton College, Trinity and Williams, while University of Puget Sound and Tufts University received at-large eights berths.
Racing begins with heats in all divisions on Friday at 8:30 a.m., followed by afternoon repechages in Division I and III starting at 3:30 p.m. Saturday’s racing begins at 8:30 a.m., and features semifinals in Division I, repechages in Division II and finals in Division III. Sunday’s racing features finals in Division I and II beginning at 8:30 a.m.
