Maidu Park Plays Host to Chicks With Sticks

Swashbuckler Lacrosse is breaking new ground with their upcoming Chicks with Sticks Lacrosse Tournament on July 11-12 that is for junior high, high school and women lacrosse teams only.  This all-girls, first-time event will take place at Maidu Park in Roseville. Placer Valley Tourism is delighted to be partnering with Swashbuckler Lacrosse again to bring this exciting tournament to Placer Valley.

With more than 100 girls competing for independent house teams and several other clubs bringing their own teams to compete from all over California, the competition is going to be outstanding.  Every team in the three divisions at the tournament are guaranteed five games and all teams will receive jerseys, team hats and sunglasses with championship trophies for the winning teams in each division.

President of Swashbuckler Lacrosse, Kevin Van Patten, explained that the tournament was designed to help increase the opportunity for girls to play tournament lacrosse as there are so few events that girls can participate in and most tournaments are geared towards boys only or just have a small division for the girls.

"We are hoping to change that over time," added Van Patten.  "This will be a very fun 'boutique' style tournament and we are really looking forward to the competition."

The tournament starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 11 and is free for spectators. There will be food vendors, beer gardens and music as well as plenty of great games.  Come check out Chicks with Sticks and see these girls competitors bring their A game!
