9 Feb, 2021

Cal Tri Events has announced its two-year national expansion efforts through 2022. In a positive news item, showing expansion for an event brand amidst challenging market conditions, Cal Tri stated… ‘Very soon a majority of the country will benefit from safe, affordable and accessible race options within driving distance of their homes.’

The 2021-2022 competition locations were selected to ‘support the growing and unmet demand for safe, affordable and accessible options.’

Races will be rolled out in the 20 top US markets: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charlotte, Charlottesville, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Florida, Fort Worth, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New York, Newport Dunes, Pennsylvania, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St Louis, Washington, DC.

A release from Cal Tri expanded on its mantra of being ‘safe, affordable and accessible’…

Because Cal Tri Events is a non-profit, athlete-led organization where the safety and well-being of our athletes is prioritized over the bottom line.

At Cal Tri Events races we put a premium on safety. Races feature a safe and humane rolling swim start and a 25:1 athlete to lifeguard ratio. Additionally, our athletes appreciate the pre-race clinics that get them race-ready.

We make events less expensive, from prices starting at US$180 for a family of four, 50% off youth pricing, eliminating unfriendly insurance add-ons, and adding event options without a bike.

“The combination of safe, affordable and accessible race pricing greatly increases participation,” argues Thom Richmond, Founder of California Triathlon & Cal Tri Events.

Cal Tri Events believes that a level playing field is one where athletes compete based on the size of their heart and not on the size of their wallet.

The average Cal Tri Events athlete is younger (32 years old) and significantly more ethnically diverse than the industry standard.

Cal Tri Events is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Its races primarily feature short course triathlon and running events that appeal to a range of athletes.
