Aug 03, 2016

Due to low water levels at the original venue, the 2016 USA Triathlon Aquathlon National Championships will now be held on Oct. 8 in Santa Cruz, California, in conjunction with the Dip & Dash Aquathlon.

The event will be at Cowell Cove in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and athletes will compete over a 1,500-meter swim and 10-kilometer run course. Held annually for the last six years, the Dip & Dash Aquathlon is one of the few standalone aquathlon events in the state of California. Participation has increased consistently each year, and this year's event is the finale of a three-race series.

Top-finishing athletes in each age group will earn a spot to compete for USA Triathlon's Team USA, comprised of the nation's top multisport athletes who represent the U.S. at each ITU World Championships event. The 2017 ITU Aquathlon World Championships will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 as part of the new ITU Multisport World Championships Festival in Penticton, British Columbia. Visit usatriathlon.org/teamusa for more on Team USA.

Athletes can register online for the Oct. 8 event, and more information, including course maps and the schedule, can be found at finishlineproduction.com.

The original event, Scott Tinley's Triathlons on Oct. 1 in San Luis Obispo, was canceled due to extremely low water levels in Lake Lopez. Athletes who had previously registered for Aquathlon Nationals at Scott Tinley's Triathlon will receive a full refund and may re-register for the new National Championship event. Question's regarding Scott Tinley's Triathlons may be sent directly to events@tricalifornia.com.
