The 2XU Long Beach Marathon and Half Marathon, organised by Motiv Sports, is set to welcome a reportedly sold-out field of 25,000 runners to southern California on the weekend of October 4–5, 2025.
Motiv Sports anticipates a large turnout for southern California’s longest-running marathon, which first launched in 1982. The event will showcase the scenic Long Beach waterfront, beaches, and eclectic neighbourhoods.
The weekend includes several races, starting with the Aquarium of the Pacific 5K on Saturday, October 4. This family-friendly event is set to feature 3,875 runners and is noted as the only 5km race in the US that runs through an aquarium.
The Health & Fitness Expo opens on Friday, October 3, at 12:00 PST at Marina Green Park in Long Beach, CA. The free expo features interactive exhibits, live entertainment, and is where all runners must pick up their race packet.
Race day is Sunday, October 5, and includes the full marathon and half marathon, both starting and finishing at Marina Green Park.
Key times for Sunday, October 5, are:
- 05:30 PST – Marathon Start
- 07:30 PST – Half Marathon Start
- 08:30 PST – Approximate time marathon winners are expected to finish
The course along Long Beach’s waterfront is described as ‘flat, fast, and scenic,’ providing ideal terrain for personal bests.
The organiser notes that 25% of participants will be running their first marathon or half marathon at this year’s event, making the event a milestone for thousands of first-timers.
