October 3RD-4TH Event Expected to Host International Field of Elite Athletes Competing For $100,000 in Cash and Prizes

Spartan Race, the world’s leading obstacle race company, will host the 2015 Reebok Spartan Race World Championship October 3-4, 2015 at the internationally renowned mountain destination Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe.

Set on the same hallowed ground as the 1960 Winter Olympics, 10,000 athletes from across the globe will scale some of the most challenging mountain terrain to compete for over $100,000 in cash and prizes. This comes as part of the $500,000 in cash and prizes Spartan Race will award during the 2015 race season — the largest amount in race history. The World Championship Elite Men and Women first place finishers will also receive a custom designed Spartan RIG valued at $12,000. Additionally, NBC will televise the Reebok Spartan Race World Championship on December 20, 2015 at 3p.m. ET– a culmination of the network’s comprehensive season-long coverage of Reebok Spartan Race which began in early July.

“Continuing to challenge our athletes is part of the Spartan DNA,” said Spartan Race CEO and Founder, Joe DeSena. “Bringing our World Championship to one of the nation’s most spectacular and rugged backdrops will make for the most challenging event the obstacle racing community has ever experienced, and an unforgettable test of mental and physical strength.”

Obstacle racing’s ultimate test of endurance and strength, the two-day World Championship weekend situated at the crest of the striking Sierra Nevada mountain range in North Lake Tahoe, California will include the Reebok Spartan Race World Championship Beast (13+ miles/ 30+ obstacles) on Saturday, in addition to a Spartan Sprint (3+ miles/ 20+ obstacles), a Spartan Beast, Ultra Beast (26+ miles/ 60+ obstacles), and Charity Challenge (3+ miles/ 20+ obstacles) on Sunday. Spartan Kids races will also take place on both Saturday and Sunday

In addition to the numerous outdoor sports and activities available for athletes, their families, and media, the Championship weekend will also feature brand presentations by Reebok, interactive experiences for fans and media alike, and the opportunity for those both familiar with and those new to Spartan Race to become fully immersed in the movement currently sweeping the globe. Spartan Race, with over one million racers in more than 20 countries, has made obstacle racing one of the world’s fastest growing participatory sports.
