Move over tennis, Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort and Spa is offering the latest racquet sport craze, Zennis. Merging meditation found in yoga with skills used in tennis, Zennis is a unique fusion fitness program. The Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau debuted the program in its latest newsletter to sports event planners.
At the start of the ZENnis clinic, participants are led through a series of relaxing stretches and poses that increase body awareness, movement and mechanics. For the remaining time, participants can use their newfound focus and flexibility to hone existing tennis skills. ZENnis™ is a practice that integrates the breathing and relaxation methods of yoga with the movements and rhythm required in tennis. In our yoga practice, we lengthen and twist the spine, which is excellent preparation for the torquing motion required in tennis. In yoga, we lengthen the muscles, which is excellent for the agility and quickness required in tennis. In both yoga and tennis, breathing is essential to achieve balance, rhythm, and focus. ZENnis™ will improve your flexibility, your cardio via deeper breathing, and provide excellent relaxation.
Typical ZENnis™ Routine:
- 20 minutes of yoga, followed by a dose of acai juice
- 30 minutes of tennis drills with an emphasis on breathing techniques
- 10 minutes of relaxation
Participants should bring:
- Yoga mat
- Tennis racquet
