U.S. Olympians Sarah True and Katie Zaferes will lead a team of 15 Americans who will race in the penultimate event on the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Series this Sunday in Edmonton, Alberta.

ITU World Triathlon Edmonton covers a sprint-distance 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run, with the elite women scheduled to race at 2:06 p.m. ET (12:06 p.m. MT) on Sunday, Sept. 4, and the elite men to follow immediately after at 4:06 p.m. ET (2:06 p.m. MT). The races will be broadcast live online at triathlonlive.tv

True (Hanover, N.H.) looks to improve on the fourth-place finish she posted in Edmonton two years ago at the series Grand Final. She has posted two top-10 finishes in World Triathlon Series events this season. True may also be seeking redemption for the untimely quad cramp she sustained at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games triathlon, which led her to pull out of the race. Zaferes (Hampstead, Md.) made her Olympic debut in Rio, where she finished 18th. Zaferes won her first WTS title in July at a sprint event in Hamburg and has posted three other top-10 finishes in WTS events this season.

Also competing for the U.S. will be Kirsten Kasper (North Andover, Mass.), who finished fifth at World Triathlon Cape Town and has two other top-10 efforts in the series this season; Renée Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J.), who also posted a fifth-place finish this season at World Triathlon Abu Dhabi and won her second ITU World Cup title in July; Lindsey Jerdonek (Cleveland, Ohio), who finished fifth last month at the Montreal ITU World Cup; Summer Cook (Thornton, Colo.), winner of the Chengdu ITU World Cup in April; Taylor Spivey (Redondo Beach, Calif.); Erin Jones (Hood River, Ore.); Sarah Alexander (South Bend, Ind.); Jessica Broderick (Boulder, Colo.) and Megan Foley (Salt Lake City, Utah).

In the men's race, 2015 Pan American Games team members Kevin McDowell (Geneva, Ill.) and Eric Lagerstrom (Portland, Ore.) will compete for the U.S. McDowell finished with the silver medal at the Toronto Pan American Games and the 2015 USA Triathlon Elite National Championships, and he posted an eighth-place finish at the Montreal ITU World Cup last month. Lagerstrom won his first career ITU World Cup medal in Montreal, picking up the bronze. Rudy von Berg (Boulder, Colo.) and Dylan Sorensen (Zionsville, Ind.) will also toe the line for the U.S. on Sunday afternoon.
