The Mobile Bar Foundation and the Mobile Sports Authority announced that Mobile County (and specifically Dauphin Island) will be hosting its first sanctioned triathlon event this October. This new event, Tri-the-Gulf Presented by Infirmary Health Systems, is a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event and will feature a sprint triathlon consisting of a 600-yard Gulf of Mexico swim, 13.3-mile island + bridge bike ride, and a 3.1-mile island run.

The first annual Tri-the-Gulf Triathlon Presented by Infirmary Health Services will be held out of the Isle Dauphine Golf Club (100 Orleans Drive, Dauphin Island, AL 36528) and will start promptly at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 15th, 2016.

"We are thrilled to be hosting this first-time triathlon on Dauphin Island. We want to thank the Town of Dauphin Island and the Dauphin Island Property Owners Association for working with us to welcome this unique event to Mobile County.  I also want to thank the Mobile Sports Authority (MSA) for their assistance in helping us with the many details to get us started. WindCreek Casino, Roberts Brothers Real Estate Company, The Admiral Hotel and Whole Foods have been significant sponsors of this event and deserve many thanks as well," said Judge Don Davis, Mobile County Probate Judge and Event Committee Chairperson.

Danny Corte, Executive Director for the MSA, added, "As we see more and more of our citizens taking part in health and fitness-type events, it just seemed like a good fit for us to help the Mobile Bar Foundation start up a new triathlon in our county.  Our vision is that we hope this event will grow over the years into a very popular annual event, bringing more visitors in, so we may show off our beautiful area."
