Half-marathon series begins with Big Beach Half-Marathon Jan. 28

Vacationers looking to incorporate fitness into their travels in the new year should consider Run the Beach – Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission’s half-marathon series designed to encourage travel outside of summer. The 2018 three-race series includes the Big Beach Half-Marathon Jan. 28, Sea Turtle Half-Marathon Feb. 17 and Kaiser Realty by Wyndham Vacation Rentals Coastal Half-Marathon Nov. 24. In 2017, the combined races produced 1,319 room nights for the coastal cities.

“Travelers crave experiences and are increasingly incorporating fitness into their vacations,” Beth Gendler, vice president of the Sports Commission. “Run the Beach participants are encouraged to stay and play on and off the beach to discover all coastal Alabama has to offer.”

Participants who register for all three races by Jan. 21, 2018, will receive a $30 discount and other special offers. After completing the series, runners will earn a medal and shell jacket.
