The Regions Tradition announced today that the 2014 event will move earlier to May 14 – 18. In 2011, the first year the major championship was contested at Shoal Creek in Birmingham, the event took place in May, but then moved later to the June date for 2012 and 2013.
“We are excited to move back to the May dates for this year,” stated tournament general chairman Matthew Dent. “This event is such an incredible event for the community and we feel the May date will provide an even better player and spectator experience. We are so grateful to all of the fans and volunteers who come out to support our primary charity, Children’s of Alabama, and to watch some incredible golf at the Regions Tradition.”
In addition to the date announcement, tournament officials announced that tickets for the event are now on sale. Tickets to this Champions Tour major event at Shoal Creek start as low as $15 and kids 18 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult. Fans can order their tickets online and conveniently print them from home by visiting www.regionstradition.com.
Online volunteer registration for the Regions Tradition is now open at RegionsTradition.com for those who are interested in participating in the event in a unique way.
Roughly 1,000 volunteers are needed to fill positions on more than 30 committees, including marshals, transportation, leaderboards and merchandise. Early submission of the application allows volunteers to specify their committee preference. A full description of committee responsibilities is provided on the website to assist volunteers in determining their preferences.
All volunteers are required to purchase the volunteer package for $50 (a $150 value), which includes one tournament logoed golf shirt provided by Peter Millar, one tournament logoed ball cap or visor, one water bottle, and one volunteer credential valid for all days of the tournament, as well as complimentary food, snacks and beverages on the days they volunteer. The volunteer package also includes four, good-any-one day tickets to the tournament. Each volunteer will be asked to work approximately 16 to 20 hours, or three to four shifts over the course of the event. Volunteers can also upgrade their volunteer package to include a round of golf at Shoal Creek, something typically only available to Shoal Creek members and their invited guests.

The Regions Tradition will once again be one of five major championships on the 2014 Champions Tour. World Golf Hall of Fame members Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd, Tom Kite and Tom Watson are among the past champions of The Tradition. Players expected to compete include defending champion David Frost, Tom Lehman, Fred Couples, Nick Price, Bernhard Langer, Mark O’Meara, John Cook, Mark Calcavecchia, Hale Irwin, Fred Funk and many more.
Children’s of Alabama, the state’s only Level 1 pediatric trauma center, will again be the primary beneficiary of charitable contributions generated by the Regions Tradition. By purchasing tickets to the Regions Tradition, fans can play a part in supporting this great cause.
