According to a report in the Birmingham Business Journal, Birmingham, AL, has submitted a bid to host the 2021 World Games and is one of three cities being considered.

According to the article:

"Birmingham had until the end of July to place a bid to host the games and it was announced Monday that the city made the cut for the final three bidding municipalities. The games will feature more than 30 sports like Tug of War, Sumo and Water Ski, according to a release."

Now that the finalists have been selected, a committee will visit each city and evaluate its potential to host the games.

The city will be required to commit funds—around $3.5 million—to host the event. However, unlike events such as the Olympics, the city is not expected to build new facilities.
