Following the successes of the 40th and 41st Alabama State Games, the ASF Foundation is excited to announce a return to the Magic City for its 42nd annual event. Plan to go for gold June 13-15, 2025.

Each year, more than 3,000 athletes from across Alabama compete for gold in the Alabama State Games over the past two years, and the goal for 2025 is to reach 4,000 participants, with representation from all 67 counties. During that same two-year span, the ASF Foundation has awarded upwards of $80,000 in academic scholarships, bringing its overall scholarship initiative total to $414,000 (with 601 scholarships awarded).

“For over 40 years, the Alabama State Games has showcased the best of our state’s talent and spirit by uniting athletes of all ages and backgrounds,” said Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. “These Games have a lasting impact on the lives of Alabamians, encouraging healthy competition, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence—while inspiring the next generation of champions. I’m proud of how far Alabama’s Olympics have come and look forward to their continued success.”

“The City of Birmingham and Jefferson County have been amazing hosts these past two years and during our many previous visits. We are excited to be back for another year,” said ASF Foundation and Alabama State Games Executive Director Laura Creel Burt. “Year 42 is going to be our most ambitious yet. We tentatively have 30 sports that our team is diligently working to bring to life. We will feature our traditional sports: track and field, wrestling, judo, soccer, swimming and diving. We are also excited about the potential inclusion of softball, the return of basketball, flag football, and adaptive sports—basketball and tennis.”

The Alabama State Games, founded in 1982 at the request of the U.S. Olympic Committee, is the second-oldest State Games program in the nation, behind Massachusetts, and has grown into Alabama’s most prominent annual multisport event. Essentially, the Alabama State Games are Alabama’s Olympics.
