A new survey of nearly 3,500 coaches across 66 sports delivers a mixed bag of news. The good: 92 percent of all coaches say their experience has had a positive impact on their lives. One of the best changes to any motto in sports was made, oddly, by the International Olympic Committee, an organization that prizes tradition. The original slogan, in Latin, was Citius, Altius, Fortius, ( "Faster, Higher, Stronger"), adopted all the back in 1894. In 2021, the IOC changed the motto of the Games to Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter. The last word meant “Together,” making the new motto “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together.” Sports, even at the amateur level, should follow this philosophy. And that’s a good New Year’s resolution.
