Each year, SDM’s awards program, Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism, is a tribute to the power of an industry. This year was no exception. Communities that hosted these events reaped a share of $1,422,168,804 in economic impact and 812,518 in hotel room nights. Events large and small contributed to this and everyone had a stake in the success you see here.

Anger Kicking In Over High World Cup Ticket Prices

When 2026 FIFA World Cup tickets went on sale, many U.S.-based fans no doubt felt penalty-kicked in the gut by the prices. While FIFA had originally claimed seats would cost as little as $60, fans found those were only for group-stage games, located in the upper-deck corners, and were scarce at best. Other tickets cost in the hundreds and thousands.
