Greensboro, North Carolina - 'Tournament Town' Evolves With the Addition of First-Time Events

Greensboro, North Carolina, is called "Tournament Town" for many reasons. The ACC is headquartered here, and the Greensboro Coliseum has hosted the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament 26 times and the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament 16 times. The arena also was home to the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regional Championship in March, and will host preliminary rounds of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. But over the past year, Greensboro tourism officials have been able to make the city an even more tempting destination for championship-level competitions in everything from volleyball and gymnastics to figure skating and wrestling.

FISE has announced the cities that have made the shortlist to host the 2016-2018 World Series featuring emerging sports, including BMX, Skateboard, Roller, Mountain Bike and Wakeboard. Among the frontrunners were Denver, Colorado, and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Oh, and Qatar and Russia too. A decision is expected later this year.

It was only a matter of time before Airbnb brought out a product to address the business travel market. It's here now (at least in beta version) and is ready to go. The next question, of course, is how long until it debuts a function for sports tourism? Probably not very, considering the explosive growth of the sharing economy.

The American Footgolf League (AFGL)

FootGolf is a combination of the sports of soccer and golf. The game is played with a regulation soccer ball at a golf course on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf. It is played throughout the world, but as a sport, it is regulated by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG).
