Event to Feature U.S. Elites Racing for Share of $5,000 Prize Purse

The CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup set to be contested in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, June 6, will now be a run-bike-run duathlon event due to water quality concerns following recent storms in the area.

Originally scheduled to begin with a 750-meter swim in Lake Carolyn just outside of the Marriott Las Colinas, the CAMTRI American Cup race will cover a 5-kilometer run, 20-kilometer bike, 2.5-kilometer run course. Elite athletes competing for ITU points will earn 75 percent of the points that would have been awarded for a triathlon event. The prize purse will remain $5,000, split evenly between the top five elite men and elite women. The elite women will start at 9:30 a.m. CT, and the elite men will start at 11 a.m. CT.

The U.S. women are led by 2014 ITU U23 Worlds bronze medalist Erin Jones (Hood River, Ore.). Jones finished seventh in Dallas one year ago, and won her first career ITU Continental Cup in Punta Guilarte, Puerto Rico, in February. Also representing the U.S. will be Summer Cook (Thornton, Colo.), who won her first career Continental Cup in Sarasota, Florida, in March, and finished second at the Clermont (Fla.) CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup and fourth at the Chengdu (China) ITU World Cup. Erin Dolan (Bentonville, Ark.) is also on the start list and won the Bridgetown (Barbados) CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup in April.

A complete women's start list is available at triathlon.org.

In the men's race, Alan Webb (Beaverton, Ore.), the American Record Holder in the mile, is on the start list, with a seventh-place finish at the Mooloolaba (Australia) ITU World Cup in March. Rudy von Berg, who is racing under the ITU flag with plans to race for the U.S. later this year, will compete following his win at the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships in April and a seventh-place finish at the Monterrey CAMTRI Championships in May.

A complete men's start list is available at triathlon.org.

Note: Start lists may change prior to Saturday's event due to the change in race format.

Dallas will also host the PlayTri Youth F1 (ages 12-16) on Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m. CT. The sprint-distance 5k run, 10k bike, 1k run event is designed to provide top up-and-coming triathletes with draft-legal racing experience.
