Champion Cheer Central to Kick Off 2017-18 Erie Competition Schedule Saturday

The Albion-based Champion Cheer Central will host nearly 100 competitive cheer and dance squads at the Bayfront Convention Center on Saturday, December 2 for its Lights! Camera! Action! Cheer and Dance Extravaganza.

The school, recreation and all-star cheer and dance squads will travel from across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and New York to take part in the competition, which will be held in Erie for the fourth year. Nearly 900 athletes will compete in the event, making it the largest Lights! Camera! Action! Cheer event ever hosted by Champion Cheer Central. The event is the first of four Champion Cheer Central events to be held in Erie during its 2017-18 season.

Doors will open at 7:30 a.m., with the competition scheduled as follows:

Session One (school and rec cheer and dance teams): competition begins at 8:15 a.m.; awards begin at 10:20 a.m.

Session Two (prep cheer teams, Levels 1-3): competition begins at 11:20 a.m.; awards begin at 1 p.m.

Session Three (Tiny, Mini, Youth, Junior and Senior cheer teams; Level 1, 2 and Novice; Junior, Mini Dance, Youth Hip-Hop): competition begins at 1:45 p.m.; awards begin at 4:55 p.m.

Session Four (Youth, Junior, Open and Senior cheer teams; Levels 3,4, 4.2 and 5; Studio, Senior, Open and Youth Lyrical Dance): competition begins at 5:40 p.m.; awards begin at 8 p.m.

Admission is $12 per adult, and $8 per child (ages 6 through 12). Children 5 and under are free.

Other scheduled events by Champion Cheer Central in the Erie region in 2018 include the Erie Winter Beach Blast Cheer and Dance Championships (Sunday, January 21 at the Bayfront Convention Center), Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships (Sunday, April 8 at the Erie Insurance Arena) and Champions of Dance (Sunday, April 15 at the Bayfront Convention Center).

The combined events regularly draw thousands of athletes and spectators to the Erie region, and generate nearly $1 million in estimated economic impact.
