Adding to an already-packed weekend of events in Erie County, three sports events will bring baseball teams, esports squads and the region’s top disc golf players to compete.

The Millcreek Riptide will host its 9th annual Back 2 School Bash for 8U and 9U teams Friday-Sunday at the Walnut Creek Baseball Complex, the inaugural Battle of Lake Erie Flagship City Esports Invitational will take place Saturday-Sunday at Gannon University’s Recreation & Wellness Center, and the Lake Erie Disc Golf Club will host its Battle of Lake Erie tournament on Sunday.

This year’s Back 2 School Bash will see 25 youth teams compete in two divisions – an 8U Coach Pitch division and a 9U division. Games will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, with play continuing Saturday from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and championship play taking place on Sunday from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

“The Back 2 School Bash is an annual event that keeps growing each year, especially as the Walnut Creek Complex has been able to expand in recent years,” Erie Sports Commission Executive Director Mark Jeanneret said. “Adding two other events to the calendar on this weekend shows that Erie County has the capacity to add events of many types and sizes, even with a tremendous event like CelebrateErie already taking place.”

Velocity Network, Gannon University and Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5 teamed up this year to host the inaugural Flagship City Esports Invitational: “The Battle of Lake Erie,” with high school, college and open play offered throughout the weekend. Games such as Super Smash Bros., Rocket League and Mario Kart will be featured, with a grand prize pool of more than $3,500 in gaming gift cards, hardware from Logitech and MSI, and more.

The Lake Erie Disc Golf Club will host a unique tournament on Sunday, with participants taking on two different courses in the same day. Play will begin at 9 a.m. at The Ridge Disc Golf Course at Pleasant Ridge Park in Fairview, followed by a break for lunch and travel time to Road Apple Disc Golf Course in Cambridge Springs, where the second round of play will commence at 1:30 p.m.
