IRONMAN and the Dorchester County Department of Tourism, in conjunction with the County Council of Dorchester County, Commissioners of Cambridge, and Sheriff of Dorchester County, have agreed to a five-year agreement to keep the IRONMAN Maryland triathlon and IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman triathlon in Dorchester County, Maryland, through 2028.

Dorchester County, located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, includes the town of Cambridge. IRONMAN added that the area’… ‘exceptional community support has made each event a fixture on many athletes’ calendars since each event’s inception, the IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman race in 1996 and the IRONMAN Maryland race in 2014.’

General registration for the 10th edition of the event taking place in 2024 scheduled to open on September 25, 2023. The next edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman is scheduled for Sunday, June 9, 2024, with general registration also now open.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Dorchester County Department of Tourism and associated agencies for another five years,” said Scott Langen, Regional Director for The IRONMAN Group.

“The IRONMAN Maryland and IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman triathlons hold a special place in the hearts of our athletes and spectators alike. We look forward to continuing to build on the legacy that the late Gerry Boyle, IRONMAN Maryland’s first race director, started years ago. Year after year, it is truly remarkable to see the dedication that the local authorities, volunteers, and fans bring to create an exceptional race experience for our athletes.”

Holly Gilpin, Director of the Dorchester County Department of Tourism, said “We are so proud to extend our collaboration with IRONMAN as the host venue for both the IRONMAN Maryland and IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman triathlons.

“These races have become an integral part of our community’s calendar. We eagerly anticipate welcoming participants and spectators to our unspoiled landscapes and coastal communities each year.”

IRONMAN Maryland begins with a 2.4-mile swim in the Choptank River, followed by a 112-mile ride through rural Dorchester County including the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and caps off with a 26.2-mile run through downtown Cambridge and the area’s coastal neighbourhoods.

IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman follows a similar route, which includes a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run that culminates at Gerry Boyle Park adjacent to the Choptank River in Cambridge, Maryland.
