The Bicycle Coalition of Maine is the statewide voice of cyclists, since 1992 the Coalition has led the effort to make Maine better for biking and walking. The Coalition works towards the goals of encouraging cyclists and building Maine’s reputation as an extraordinary bicycle and pedestrian tourism destination. The Coalition is able to encourage new bicyclists and seasoned enthusiasts through a range of traditional and innovative rides and events. These events include:

The Maine Women’s Ride: On June 12, the Coalition will host the 15th annual Maine Women’s Ride at the L.L.Bean Flagship Store’s Discovery Park in Freeport. The Maine Women’s Ride is a celebration of women and bicycling. This annual event has grown to be the largest women’s only cycling event in Maine and New England. The event offers routes for all abilities (ten, 25, 50 and 62 mile options).

The Lobster Ride: The Lobster Ride takes place on July 24 in Camden. This year’s event has transitioned from its longtime venue at Rockland High School to the Camden Snow Bowl. The Lobster Ride features five routes (15 to 100 miles) with winding, country lanes and the breathtaking rockbound coast past lighthouses, lupines and lobster boats. The real highlight for some is the delicious post ride lobster roll lunch (with vegetarian options). In 2012, the Lobster Ride was named as one of the top ten centuries in the US!

BikeMaine: The Coalition’s newest event, BikeMaine is a fully supported, seven-day cycling tour held each year in mid-September. Cyclists pedal an average of 55 miles per day along moderately challenging terrain on uncrowded safe and quiet roadways, through small town rich in local culture. Riders enjoy locally sourced foods like Maine seafood and fresh-from-the-farm produce at every meal. In just three years the BikeMaine has been able to generate over $1 million in direct economic impact to the different regions of the state through rider spending and the local sourcing of products and services for the ride. Riders have participated in BikeMaine from thirty-five states and five countries. While the 2016 rise is sold-out, registration for BikeMaine 2017 will open on September 21, 2016.
