Visit Lake Charles named Sam Moore, former head baseball coach at Sulphur High School, as the new director of sports relations. Moore will serve as a liaison between Visit Lake Charles and sports facilities to increase awareness of Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana as a sports destination, and generate leads and room nights to increase visitation to Southwest LA.

For the past five years, Moore coached baseball at Sulphur High School, and prior to that, he coached West Orange Stark, Little Cypress Mauriceville, Bridge City, Iowa, Vinton, and Leesville. A graduate of West Orange Stark in 1982, Moore continued his education at Louisiana Tech University, playing baseball all four years and earning a bachelor’s degree in education.

“With the influx of sporting events and variety of sports tournaments that Visit Lake Charles is attracting, it is imperative to have knowledgeable, seasoned staff especially for more prevalent events such as baseball and softball. We are thrilled to have Sam join our ranks to build upon the success of the sports department at Visit Lake Charles,” said Kyle Edmiston, President/CEO of Visit Lake Charles.

In addition to serving as a liaison, Moore will identify, recruit, and encourage local representatives affiliated with state, regional, national, and international organizations to host future sports events in Southwest Louisiana.

“I am looking forward to working with Sam and seeing him leverage his experience with coaching and managing teams over the years when it comes to sports events. He will be a tremendous asset to the team,” said Eric Zartler, senior vice president of sports.

This summer, ballfields, hotels, and restaurants are full as the area is hosting multiple softball and baseball tournaments bringing in millions of dollars in travel expenditures from teams and fans.
