AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk and management firm Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) are pleased to announce a significant construction update for the highly-anticipated sports and entertainment complex in Overland Park, Kansas, reflecting a commitment to delivering a premier sports and wellness destination. Phase One of construction will unveil eight hardwood basketball courts, which can convert to 16 volleyball courts, alongside facilities that accommodate the growing popularity of pickleball—a testament to its adaptive approach and dedication to multisport engagement.

Phase One, which broke ground on December 7, 2022, was originally slated to feature four hardwood basketball courts and a permanent multi-purpose turf space. The dynamic facility's design has expanded to prioritize flexibility and maximize event opportunities. The new plan will feature four additional hardwood basketball courts with a temporary/removable 60-yard by 60-yard multipurpose turf space to cater to a broader range of athletic events and community activities. Plans still include an NHL regulation-size ice rink, eight basketball courts (convertible to 16 volleyball), a 40,000-square foot turf field, locker rooms, an e-sports center, a family entertainment center, a training area, sprinting track, café, sports medicine center, and more.

"Our goal has always been to create a versatile space that can adapt to the varying needs of our community and visitors,” said Greg Jackson, the facility’s general manager. “This latest development underscores our commitment to providing a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment complex that is not just visually impressive but also functionally superior. We believe in creating experiences that leave a lasting impact, and with these enhancements, we are one step closer to achieving this goal.”

Envisioned as a hub for amateur and youth sports, the 420,000 square-foot sports facility, the first phase of which is 260,000 square feet and set to open in the fall, is strategically located in the Bluhawk District, close to premium dining, retail and comfortable accommodations. Residing next to a neighborhood shopping center with an existing grocery store, the sports park is poised to become a vibrant community anchor, offering ease of access to new restaurants, retail outlets, and exhilarating entertainment.

"The Bluhawk development project will greatly enhance the quality of life in Overland Park and the surrounding communities," said Governor Laura Kelly. "It will not only attract visitors, recreation-seekers, and sports enthusiasts from across the region to Kansas but also expect to drive a projected $3.8 million in economic impact through new market sports and spending revenue to Overland Park in its first year."

AdventHealth is a renowned non-profit healthcare system with an extensive network of facilities that prioritizes the well-being of the community.
