Kaiser Coastal Half-Marathon, 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run Take Place Nov. 28

Celebrate togetherness with family, fun, food and fitness this Thanksgiving by getting away to Alabama’s beaches. Vacationers may choose to cook in their accommodations or opt to eat out at the many restaurants in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach offering Thanksgiving meals. After feasting on “turkey day” delicacies, take in Black Friday specials across the area and get fit on Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Kaiser Realty by Wyndham Vacation Rentals Coastal Half-Marathon, 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run.

“Fall is the perfect time to travel to the Alabama Gulf Coast with cooler weather and a slower pace,” says Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission. “We encourage families to make Thanksgiving memories along Alabama’s beaches by participating in one of the best sporting events of the year. There is a distance for every fitness level – half-marathon, 5K or 1 mile – to promote wellness this holiday season.”

Beginning and ending at the Orange Beach Sportsplex, the half-marathon winds through Gulf State Park’s scenic, paved Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. The race is designated as the Alabama Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Half-Marathon State Championship.

Online registration is $70 through Nov. 8 and $80 from Nov. 9-24 for the half-marathon; $30 through Nov. 8 and $35 from Nov. 9-24 for the 5K; $15 through Nov. 8 and $20 from Nov. 9-24 for the fun run. On-site registration is $90 for the half-marathon, $45 for the 5K and $30 for the fun run.

Packet pick-up and late registration will take place Friday, Nov. 27 at the Orange Beach Event Center at The Wharf from 3-6 p.m. and the day of the race at the Orange Beach Sportsplex from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Participants may indulge in food and drinks provided by Cosmo’s Restaurant & Bar, Publix and Coca-Cola immediately following the race.

Additionally, the Sports Commission asks for locals to volunteer for this family-friendly sporting event. Contact Sarah Cooper at SCooper@GulfShores.com to sign up.
