From an SEC Championship to Local Races, Athletes will be Pouring into the Area

This fall, a wide range of sporting events head to the Alabama Gulf Coast - from national soccer championships and local half marathon races to softball and youth soccer tournaments. Several of these competitions are returning to the destination including the SEC Women’s Soccer Championship which is coming back to Orange Beach Sportsplex for the 11th year in a row.

“It’s because of these relationships our sports commission and cities have formed with organizations such as the SEC and NAIA that we continue to see sports tourism growing in our destination,” said Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission. “We look forward to fostering these relationships and welcoming new tournaments to our beaches every year.”

Another popular fall sporting event is the annual Kaiser Realty by Wyndham Vacation Rentals Half-Marathon, 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. Locals and visitors alike will come to run off their Thanksgiving dinner at this fun, family- and pet-friendly race on Nov. 25. To register for the race, please visit Team-Magic.com.

“Family is what we are all about in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach,” said Gendler. “Events like the SEC Women’s Soccer Championship and Kaiser Half-Marathon allow athletes, friends and families to come together, get active and enjoy our beaches and all they have to offer.”
