The AVCA National Championship Selection Committee announced in Lexington, Kentucky, that Pepperdine University, Long Beach State University, University of Southern California, University of North Florida, Florida State University and the University of Louisiana-Monroe have been selected to compete in the second Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship. The event will be held in Gulf Shores, Alabama, May 3-5 and will also feature a sixteen team Pairs Championship. Pairs were selected from Georgia State University, University of California/Los Angeles, Florida International University, the University of Alabama/Birmingham, the University of the Pacific, Jacksonville University, Loyola Marymount University and Saint Mary’s College of California. All participants in the Championships were selected based on results from the collegiate sand volleyball season which began in March.

CBS Sports Network will televise portions of the competition in three hour-long specials beginning on Tuesday, May 21 (7:00 PM, ET). A complete telecast schedule is listed below.

“The growth of collegiate sand volleyball has been remarkable,” said AVCA Executive Director, Kathy DeBoer. “and CBS Sports Network has been there every step of the way,”

The event returns to Gulf Shores, Alabama, the site of the inaugural championships in 2012. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism lead a group of community partners that includes the Gulf Coast Region of USA Volleyball, the city, and several local businesses in producing a winning bid to retain the championships through 2015.

“We are so excited to once again play a part in hosting this incredible collegiate competition on the beautiful beaches of Gulf Shores, AL,” said Beth Gendler, Vice-President of Sales for Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism. “This event gives the athletes a great beach to compete on and gives us the opportunity to show people from around the country what we have to offer.

"Combine world-class beaches with a hard-working and dedicated community and you have a formula for success,” said Philip Bryant, Commissioner of the Gulf Coast Region. “A year ago we set as our goal to win this event going forward and now we are determined to make the championships a bigger and better event every year!"
