The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series® announced that the 2018 United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Chengdu Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, September 23, 2018. The annual race will take over the streets of Dujiangyan followed by a celebratory headliner concert at Chengdu Neusoft University to complete the event. The concert will be free and open to the public.

“We were so pleased with last year’s race as the first ever Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event in China and are excited to have found a date where we can return to the incredible Sichuan Province,” said Jeff Edwards, General Manager of Operations for IRONMAN China.

The musically themed running series is known for bringing live music and entertainment to the course. Runners will then get the chance to take in one of the world’s cultural heritage sites and the beautiful scenery of Chengdu. This rugged and beautiful course is accompanied with spectator and volunteer support alongside live, local bands on the course.

“We are very excited to welcome back the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon to Chengdu, China this year. Over the last year, we have received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from our customers in China on this new style of running event, which focuses on enjoying outdoor sports accompanied by Rock ’n’ Roll music,” commented Walter Dias, United’s managing director of Greater China and Korea, Sales. “Chengdu is an important market in China for United Airlines. We connect Chengdu and the U.S. with our three-times-weekly nonstop service to our hub in San Francisco and feel honored to work together with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series to promote this fun sporting event in China.”

Half marathon runners will start at the historical Nanqiao Bridge (South Bridge) before touring the sights of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System and running past the Dujiangyan Panda Center. The event comes to an exciting and scenic finish near Mount Qingcheng, one of the most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites in China.

The United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Chengdu event kicks off with the Mini Run 5K and Happy Run 10K starting at 7:30 a.m. to be followed by the half marathon which will start at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 23. Runners and spectators can celebrate the day with the headliner concert beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In 2017, Chengdu was announced as the location for the first ever Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event in China. Now in 2018, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Luoping Half Marathon and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Guangzhou Half Marathon have already been completed with future Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series races in China to be announced soon.
