Copper Canyons Events to Host Inaugural Endurance Races in the Heart of Tarahumara Country

Made famous by the book Born To Run and El Caballo Blanco, Las Barrancas del Cobre (The Copper Canyons) is the setting for a new and one-of-a-kind endurance experience taking place in October 2019. Located in Chihuahua, Mexico, the Copper Canyons offer breathtaking views, challenging run courses and a cultural experience in the heart of Tarahumara country. Registration opens today for this epic series of endurance events.

“The courses may be some of the most challenging and beautiful landscape athletes will have ever ran, however these events are so much more than just a race,” says event  co-founder Michael Miller. “There is something truly magical in these canyons and sierras. There is a wisdom, and a perspective that is gained when exposed to the peoples and the culture of the Barrancas.” Miller helps organize and has been a longtime supporter of the annual Ultra Caballo Blanco race held in the Copper Canyons.

The inaugural edition of the Copper Canyons Events will take place from October 14-21, 2019. Events include a 5-day stage race, a 100 mile ultramarathon, a marathon, and a half marathon runs. Pricing for these events is all-inclusive to make is as easy as possible for athletes to participate. Pricing packages include round-trip ground transportation from El Paso Texas, race registration fees, breakfast and dinner meals, lodging, and local transportation.

“It has always been a goal of mine since reading Born to Run to have a positive impact on the Tarahumara and the local Copper Canyons community. I am excited to get to show ahtletes the culture, the region and the ruggedness of the trails in the Canyons,” says co-founder Rob Goyen.
