Greater Gwinnett Championship Names 2014 Benefitting Charities

21 Oct, 2013

The Greater Gwinnett Championship Presented by Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating, Atlanta’s second-year event on the PGA TOUR’s Champions Tour, has named the charitable recipients of its 2014 tournament proceeds. They include Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation, and the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation. Giving back to the community in which events are hosted is the heart of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour. Combined they have donated nearly $2 billion thanks to generous corporate sponsorships and the volunteers who devote their time and talents.

“We are excited to be able to make significant contributions to these very worthy charities,” said tournament executive director, Stan Hall. “TOUR events are all about showcasing the greatest golfers in the world and giving back to the community. To be able to do both is very rewarding for all of us.”

"Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Gwinnett is honored to be a charitable partner in the Greater Gwinnett Championship,” said Annie Valenty, Community Outreach Liaison for CHOA. “As a main provider of pediatric care to the nearly 200,000 children in Gwinnett County, we understand the pivotal role we play in the health and wellbeing of our children and our community. It is through the support of great events like the Greater Gwinnett Championship that we can continue to provide outstanding service to the children of Gwinnett County."

"Because Georgia Gwinnett is a young college, community support is critical to providing scholarships, programs and other initiatives that are key to long-term success," said Dr. Stas Preczewski, interim president. "We are deeply appreciative for the generosity of the Greater Gwinnett Championship and Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating."

"One of Gwinnett Medical Center's many cutting edge services is our new Concussion Institute,” said Jason Chandler, President of the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation. We believe this partnership is a wonderful way to communicate with the community the importance of having outstanding concussion prevention and management. We are so very grateful to the Greater Gwinnett Championship for helping us in our ongoing mission to transform healthcare in the community we share."

About the Greater Gwinnett Championship: The Greater Gwinnett Championship Presented by Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating is an official event on the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour. This 54-hole stroke play golf tournament features 81 Champions Tour professionals competing for a $1.8 million purse on April 16-20, 2014 at the prestigious TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, GA. All three official rounds will be nationally televised on the Golf Channel.

About the Champions Tour: Collectively, the Champions Tour has the most recognizable and accomplished players in the game with many of its 32 members of the World Golf Hall of Fame competing regularly in its events and numerous other major championship winners among its members. The Champions Tour is a membership organization of professional golfers age 50 and older. Conceived in 1980 as the Senior PGA Tour, it started with just four events and purses totaling $475,000. The Champions Tour's primary purpose is to provide financial opportunities for its players, entertain and inspire its fans, deliver substantial value to its partners, create outlets for volunteers to give back, protect the integrity of the game and generate significant charitable and economic impact in communities in which it plays. In 2012, tournaments on all five Tours (PGA TOUR, Champions Tour, Web.com Tour, PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, PGA TOUR Canada) generated more than $130 million for local charitable organizations, bringing the TOUR's all-time total of charitable contributions to more than $1.85 billion.
