Slackline Industries, the international leader in the development of slackline sports, is pleased to announce the 2017 competition schedule that will culminate with the “best of the best” title showdown at the Slackline World Cup Japan, being held Sept. 17-19, 2017.

Competing for cash prizes and top spots in the official ISI World Ranking, the two big showdowns of tricklining talent in the United States will take place at Dominion Riverrock, May 19-21 in Richmond, Virginia, and The GoPro Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado, June 9-11. The four highest scoring athletes at the GoPro Mountain Games will win all-expenses-paid trips to the World Cup in Japan.

Elite-level slackline athletes committed to attend these events include Emiliano Gimenez, Itsuki Hosoe and Mickey Wilson, who recently made a household name for himself with a daring rescue of a choking skier caught on a Colorado lift.

“The tricks coming out of these competitions are really taking things to a new level. The names are pretty fun, too,” said Frankie Najera, Slackline Industries marketing director, referring to Misty Buttflips, Squirrel Grabs, Estonian Backflips, Lady Bounce 180 BS to Butt Bounces and others. “It’s an incredible time to be a part of this fast-growing sport. If climbing can make it to the Olympics, what’s stopping slacklining?”

In 2015, Slackline Industries designed and launched the ISI Slackline Judging website to help standardize slackline competition scoring. Loosely based on the assessment method used in FIS Snowboard World Cup, the system provides consistency in trick scoring, an unbiased platform and transparency to competitors and audiences. Updated every year before the competitive season, the ISI system is now the standard bearer of the sport, with more than 15 trained judges from all over the world and a soon-to-be-released app for use by amateurs and pros alike.

The Online Trickline Championship, open to slackline athletes all over the world, now in its second year, will also be announced soon. Contestants submit a two-minute video to be judged according to the ISI criteria and the top four win an all-expenses-paid trip to the World Cup in Japan.
