IRONMAN Continues Expansion into International Sports Tourism Market

Newest Forays into Thailand, Korea, Mark Further Development of Events

IRONMAN, a Wanda Sports Holdings company, has announced two races, marking its penetration of the sports travel market.

In the first event, in collaboration with Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thailand Tri-League, IRONMAN announced the launch of the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok™ in Bangkok, Thailand. Runners of all abilities will be able to choose from four different race distances: Marathon (42.195K), Half-Marathon (21.1K), Bangkok Bank 10K and a Family Fun Run.

According to organizers, The Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok presented by Toyota will be much more than just a race, starting with a Sports and Lifestyle Expo at Bangkok Airport Rail Link where runners and visitors can enjoy many activities and exclusive promotions from February 1st to the 3rd. Among the activities, the Family Fun Run will be the perfect opportunity for runners to share the road with their little ones on a 4km route packed with entertainment around the Airport Rail Link on Saturday, February 3. The following day on Sunday, February 4, marathon runners will start their race at 2:30 a.m. from Rajamangala Stadium - home stadium of the Thailand National Football team – while half-marathon and 10km participants will begin their day near the Democracy Monument at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., respectively.

The company also announced the latest addition of IRONMAN® 70.3® Jeju on Jeju Island, Korea which will be owned and operated by Korea Triathlon Federation. The inaugural edition of the race will take place on July 8, 2018.

That event will take place in the southern part of Jeju Island, Seogwipo. The beautiful Pyoseon Haevichi Beach will host the start of a two-loop 1.9-km clockwise swim through the emerald Pacific Ocean. The athletes will then ride on a scenic and well-paved two-loop 90km bike course with sweeping ocean views. The stunning views of mountains and volcanoes will showcase the exotic landscape Jeju Island has to offer. The athletes will then run a flat oceanside one-loop 21.1km runcourse along Hwanhaejangseong-ro through little seaside villages before reaching the Finish Line on Pyoseon Haeyichi Beach.
