The Renasant Convention Center and Memphis Management Group have been awarded the GBAC STAR, the gold standard of safe facilities, providing third- party validation that ensures meetings and event facilities implement strict protocols for biorisk situations.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the GBAC STAR accreditation allows the Renasant Convention Center management team to assure employees, meeting planners and facility users that proven systems are in place to deliver clean and healthy environments that are safe for business.

“With this facility coming back online following a top to bottom renovation and the addition of new meeting spaces, we wanted to be sure we were exceeding expectations in terms of cleanliness with the current health climate,” said Dean Dennis, SVP & GM of Memphis Management Group and Renasant Convention Center. “Following the standards set forth by the GBAC STAR accreditation process, our entire team is committed to creating the safest and healthiest environment possible for meetings and events.”

Composed of international leaders in the field of microbial-pathogenic threat analysis, mitigation, response, and recovery, the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, provides training, guidance, accreditation, certification, crisis management assistance, and leadership to government, commercial and private entities looking to mitigate, quickly address, and/or recover from biological threats and real-time crises.

GBAC STAR accreditation requires adherence to 20 program elements that each have specific performance and guidance criteria. At the core of the accreditation process is to establish and maintain a cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention program to control and/or minimize risk associated with infectious agents for employees, customers, clients, visitors, the community, and the environment

“In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the GBAC STAR accreditation program is exactly what facilities need to confidently reopen and keep staff, customers, and communities safe,”

said John Barrett, Executive Director, ISSA. “The way the world views cleaning has changed overnight. To effectively recover from this crisis and prepare for the next, it’s essential that businesses take these necessary steps—and we’re thrilled to have a stable of top organizations that have already committed to the program.”
