During the 187th Annual Congress of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in Innsbruck, Austria, UCI announced that Rock Hill, SC will host BMX Supercross (SX) World Cup events in 2019 and 2020.  Rock Hill previously hosted BMX SX World Cup events in 2015 and 2016 and the UCI BMX World Championships in 2017.

“Rock Hill was awarded these two major events due in large part to the community’s outstanding support during the 2017 BMX World Championships,” says Rock Hill Mayor John Gettys.  “We’re honored to welcome back the elite riders in 2019 and 2020, as well as the BMX fans who will be cheering them on!”

On Sept. 14-15, 2019, the Rock Hill BMX Supercross Track will be the site of stages 7 and 8 of the BMX SX World Cup series.  In 2020, Rock Hill will host the BMX SX World Cup Finals on May 16-17 which will be the last stop before the 2020 UCI BMX World Championships in Houston, Texas.  As a result of this schedule, City officials anticipate that many international riders and teams may extend their stay in Rock Hill to practice before travelling to Houston.

Other host cities for stages of the BMX SX World Cup series in 2019 and/or 2020 are:  Manchester, Great Britain; Papendal, the Netherlands; Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France; Santiago del Estero, Argentina; and Shepparton and Bathurst, Australia.

Adding to the excitement, Rock Hill will host cycling festivals in conjunction with the World Cup events, featuring “Biking Bonanza” in 2019 and “BikeFest” in 2020.  Each festival will include a variety of races and family-friendly cycling activities.

The UCI BMX SX World Cup in Rock Hill will deliver Olympic qualifying points for individual riders and nation ranking points for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games held in Tokyo, Japan.  These points are crucial to each country as they award start positions and provide a criteria to select athletes to the Olympics.  These events are projected to bring an estimated 200 men and women pro Olympic athletes from approximately 30 countries and about 7,000 spectators.

The Rock Hill BMX Supercross Track is located at 1307 Riverwalk Parkway, Rock Hill, South Carolina. The facility is owned, operated and programmed by the City of Rock Hill Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department and opened in 2014. The official venue website is www.rockhillscbmx.com.
