The Cooper River Bridge Run, the annual 10K race over the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge which connects Mount Pleasant, S.C. to the Charleston peninsula, has announced that Harris Teeter will be the 2018 Presenting Sponsor. This announcement was made in conjunction with the grand opening of the new Harris Teeter at Westwood Plaza on Sam Rittenberg Blvd. in West Ashley. The ribbon cutting for the Westwood Plaza Harris Teeter was held today, Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 8 a.m.
“With the sponsorship of Harris Teeter the 41st Cooper River Bridge Run will be the most successful yet,” said race director Julian Smith. “And we congratulate Harris Teeter on the grand opening of the Westwood Plaza location. Their success is evident in their growth, and we’re thrilled to partner with them.”
As the sole Presenting Sponsor, Harris Teeter will provide interactive booths at the Expo, the Kids Run and Wonderfest, and at the post-race finish festival. Vendor booths will provide bottles of water, fruits and snacks, and Harris Teeter brand giveaway items.
“With over 240 stores and nearly 30 store locations in the Lowcountry alone, we couldn’t have partnered with a better store for the 41st Annual Cooper River Bridge Run,” said Mark Cellars, assistant race director.
The Cooper River Bridge Run event begins with a pre-race Expo held at the Charleston Area Convention Center on Thursday and Friday, April 5-6, 2018. The 10K race starts at 8 a.m. on April 7 on Coleman Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. The post-race finish festival will be held at the finish line at Marion Square where there will be live music, entertainment, vendors, and food and beverages.
On Friday, April 6 there will also be a Kids Run and Wonderfest which consists of a Toddler Waddle, a quarter-mile run, and a 1-mile fun run. The Kids Run and Wonderfest are held at Hampton Park starting at 11 a.m. There will be live music, a jump castle, a mechanical bull, and much more.
The Cooper River Bridge Run began in 1978 with a dream of promoting a healthy lifestyle in the Lowcountry. It started with about 800 people running across the bridges that connect Charleston. In 2006, the race made the leap to running across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. What started with roughly 800 runners now has more than 40,000 participants who get over it each April. Today, the Cooper River Bridge Run provides a world-class 10K (6.2 miles) footrace promoting continuous physical activity and a healthy lifestyle through education and opportunity, and serving as a model of health motivation for other communities throughout the world. Nationally acclaimed and locally admired, the Cooper River Bridge Run truly is a legendary Charleston affair.
The Cooper River Bridge Run is the only sanctioned USA Track and Field Elite Event Competition in South Carolina.
Voted ‘Best Fundraising Event’ by Charleston City Paper Best Of Awards 2016, 2015, 2014 & 2013. Awarded ‘Third Largest 10K In America’ by Running USA.
