The World’s Largest Beach Volleyball Tournament is on track for another great year with more than 1500 teams anticipated. The Tournament already has over 1100 teams on board. The Tournament, run by Seaside Chamber of Commerce, takes place August 11 – 14 on the beach at Seaside, Oregon. Teams come primarily from Western United States and Canada to enjoy four days of volleyball. The Tournament has expanded its Youth Division with the addition of Thursday. Also new this year are Tournament Directors NWAS/Bad Boys of Volleyball from the Portland area. “We are proud of our association with NWAS/Bad Boys and are looking forward to the changes they’ve been implementing,” said Chamber Director Brian J. Owen. One of the key changes is moving the brackets to an online system allowing players to know in advance when and where they are scheduled to play.

Tournament directors are NWAS Bad Boys Volleyball operated by Deng Thepharat, PT Thilavanh and Mike Griffin from Portland. They are active members of the volleyball community and former players at the Seaside tournament. The group has ties to USA Volleyball through the regional group, CEVA (Columbia Empire Volleyball Association) where Thepharat and Griffin are board members.

The Seaside Chamber of Commerce has hosted the largest beach volleyball tournament in the country for the past 34 years and in the world since 2011 when it was awarded world record-

breaking status by the World Records Academy, LLC. In 2015 the event was enjoyed by more than 1500 teams, spanning 140 courts during three days of competition. Cash and other prizes valued at over $60,000 are given out throughout the tournament. Seaside Chamber Beach Volleyball takes place the 2nd weekend of August each year. 2016 dates are August 11, 12, 13 & 14.

Sponsors for the Seaside Chamber Beach Volleyball Tournament include Bud Light/Clatsop Distributing, Spalding Sports Equipment, Recology of Western Oregon, Pacific Power, Seaside Providence Hospital, CLIF Bars and VISO.
