2021 MLQ Championship and 2021 MLQ SuperSeries Seeking Host Cities

MLQ has opened bidding for the 2021 MLQ Championship and our 2021 MLQ SuperSeries.

MLQ Championship–considered a premier quidditch event–is held in August. For 2020, the top 12 out of 15 MLQ teams, based on regular-season performance, will be invited to the MLQ Championship in Howard’s County, Md. In each division, the team that is ranked fifth out of five by regular-season performance will not qualify. The 12 teams will be seeded based on regular-season performance into a double elimination bracket which will ensue throughout the MLQ Championship until one team walks away with the Benepe Cup. The tournament will be played simultaneously on two pitches, with all matches livestreamed to the community of fans that cannot attend in-person.

MLQ Championship will continue to be held every August. The atmosphere of the event is family-friendly and spectators even have the opportunity to give the sport a go in between MLQ matches. Parties interested in bidding for the 2021 MLQ Championship may review our bid manual for an idea of what to expect in regards to information on deadlines and requirements.

To initiate the bid process, interested parties should first download and review the bid manual for the given season. Potential hosts may submit the Intent to Bid Form to indicate interest and initiate communication with MLQ staff. The deadline for submission of the completed bid package, along with the Bid Snapshot to highlight key features, is Aug. 1, 2020 for the 2021 process. The MLQ Events Director, MLQ Tournament Manager and MLQ Commissioners will then select finalists from among the complete bids received. The MLQ Events Director will schedule site visits with finalist locations. The final city partners will be announced publicly Nov. 1, 2020.

2021 MLQ CHAMPIONSHIP BID MANUAL

An MLQ SuperSeries is a smaller-scale, two-day event that brings three teams from a division together to play two series each. An MLQ SuperSeries is a great way to host an MLQ event without all the responsibilities needed for the MLQ Championship.

A SuperSeries requires 11 hours of field access over the course of two days in two blocks of time. The preferred split is seven hours on Saturday and four hours on Sunday. MLQ encourages late afternoon/early evening for Saturday games and no later than 11 a.m. ET for Sunday series. The dates provided should be between June 1, 2021 and Aug. 8, 2021. Parties interested in bidding for an MLQ SuperSeries may review our bid manual for an idea of what to expect in regards to information on deadlines and requirements.

To initiate the bid process, interested parties should first download and review the bid manual for the given season. Potential hosts must submit the completed bid package, along with the Bid Snapshot to highlight key features, by Dec. 1, 2020 for the 2021 process. The MLQ Events Director and MLQ Commissioners will then select finalists from among the complete bids received. The MLQ Events Director will schedule site visits, as needed, with finalist locations.
