The Detroit Red Wings have announced the details for the first-ever Hockeytown 5K Run/Walk, presented by Meijer and Powerade, set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Registration for the Hockeytown 5K starts at $50 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Detroit Red Wings Foundation.

The Hockeytown 5K, which was designed in partnership with RunningFlat USA, will take place along the Detroit RiverWalk with the finish line positioned at center ice inside Joe Louis Arena. Current Red Wings players and alumni will be in attendance along the course and inside The Joe to cheer on participants throughout the experience.

Following the Hockeytown 5K, the Red Wings will host the “5K Festival” inside The Joe. The “5K Festival” will include appearances from past and present Red Wings to participate in Q&A sessions and sign autographs. Fans in attendance will also have an opportunity to tour the Red Wings locker room, play interactive games to test their hockey skills, take photos with championship and retired jersey banners, and win great Red Wings prizes.

The Hockeytown 5K will mark the first of many events during the 2016-17 season celebrating the “Farewell Season at The Joe” as the Red Wings prepare to embark upon their final regular season at Joe Louis Arena. The campaign will celebrate many of the historic Red Wings games and entertainment acts that have been held at Joe Louis Arena in the building’s illustrious 38-year history through championship and alumni celebrations, memorable giveaways, special entertainment performances and much more.

The Red Wings are offering two package options for those interested in participating in the Hockeytown 5K and attending the “5K Festival.” The Grind Line package provides race registration, a Hockeytown 5K T-shirt, a runner’s bib, a one-of-a-kind commemorative medal for $50 ($55 after June 30; $60 race day registration) and admittance to the “5K Festival” following the race. For $79, the Production Line package provides all the great benefits of the Grind Line package and also includes two tickets to a Red Wings 2016-17 preseason game and one Hockeytown 5K cooling towel.

Additionally, the Red Wings will offer a Family Discount package. Families of four or more who register together will receive $5 off each Hockeytown 5K registration fee.

For $55, the Red Wings will also offer a Virtual Race package for fans who are unable to attend the Hockeytown 5K. Those interested can sign a waiver agreeing to run 3.1 miles on Saturday, Sept. 10, and the Red Wings will mail the race bib, Hockeytown 5K T-shirt and a commemorative medal to the participant.

Spectators are also invited to cheer on their family and friends during the Hockeytown 5K for a suggested $5 donation to benefit the Detroit Red Wings Foundation upon entering Joe Louis Arena. Children under the age of 18 can enter The Joe for free. Spectators will also be welcomed into Joe Louis Arena to participate in the “5K Festival” activities.
