Winnipeg to Host Junior National Ball Hockey Championship

First-Time Event to Draw Teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Newfoundland and Manitoba

The Manitoba Ball Hockey Association will be hosting teams from across Canada at the 2014 Canadian National Junior Ball Hockey Championships July 31 to August 2.  Teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Newfoundland and Manitoba will participate in three separate age categories including U15, U17 and U19 groups.   Games will take place at the MTS Iceplex and St. Norbert Arena and will culminate with the championship games on Sunday August 2nd at the MTS Iceplex.

Over 420 participants will take part in the event.  The largest division is in the U15 age group with 8 teams going for gold.  A skills competition and opening ceremony will take place at the MTS Iceplex on Thursday July 31, starting at 10 AM.  Jocelyn Laroque, the gold medalist Team Canada Ice Hockey Player and also top Team Manitoba ball hockey player, will drop the ceremonial face off ball.  

Tournament partners include Tourism Winnipeg, Sport Manitoba, The City of Winnipeg, Booster Juice, Boston Pizza, Sherwood Hockey, The Canadian Ball Hockey Association, The Manitoba Minor Ball Hockey League and the Manitoba Ball Hockey Association.
