KidSport Winnipeg and Desiree Scott, 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist, Pro Soccer Player with Notts County LFC and member of the Canadian Women’s National Team announced an inaugural KidSport soccer camp taking place on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Seven Oaks Soccer-Plex.

"I am really excited to be able to come together with KidSport to put on what will be a fantastic day of soccer for girls,” said Scott.  “Giving back is something I pride myself on doing and working with kids in the community is something I truly enjoy so I am looking forward to getting on the pitch with the girls and getting them to experience a little taste of what it's like to train as a professional soccer player!"

Scott, along with a number of top Manitoba soccer players & coaches will take kids through position-specific fundamental drills and exercises.  Along with technical abilities, coaches will provide examples of important skills such as leadership, practice, hard work, dedication and self-confidence. The camp is for girls aged 9–18 years old. Registration is open to the public. Community-sponsored girls who have been funded by KidSport to play soccer in 2014 will also be in attendance.

“Ensuring all kids are exposed to the many benefits associated with sport is our mandate,” said the chair of the Winnipeg Region KidSport Committee, Matt Erhard. “Our goal for this camp is two-fold; it provides an incredible opportunity for youth soccer players to meet and learn from Desiree and it will also raise much-needed funds to ensure we can continue to help those who need it most and that all kids can play.

KidSport is a national charity, administered in Manitoba by Sport Manitoba, which provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.  KidSport believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports.
