The Power Smart Manitoba Games are pleased to announce the sport age categories and venue locations for the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games - Steinbach.

Please see this link for a full listing of venues, located in Manitoba.

The Power Smart Manitoba Games offer selected Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs) a competitive and developmental opportunity to advance their long term athlete and coach development plans.  The age or stage selected generally fits in the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Train to Train stage of development.  PSOs are required to determine the stage and age for their respective sport.

The Power Smart Manitoba Games are often the first multi-sport Games experience for athletes”, said Jeff Hnatiuk, President and CEO Sport Manitoba. “The Games help identify Manitoba athletes with the potential to advance to higher levels of competition like Provincial Team, National Competitions, Canada and Western Canada Games.”

The 2016 Steinbach Host Society is planning to invest close to $300,000 into facility development over the coming year.  The most significant project is a new athletic track.

“After preliminary costing, site evaluations and consultations with athletic venue experts and the various parties of interest, it has been decided that the most suitable site for the newly developed athletic track facility will be at Stonybrook Middle School”, said Scott Bestvater, Director of Athlete Services and Operations for the 2016 Host Society and Hanover School Division Rep. “This site offers great accessibility to both the school division and the community.”

The proposed plan includes a six lane asphalt track complete with two opposing sprint straightaways, two long and triple jump pits as well as a high jump and throwing area. Construction is anticipated to begin in July and be completed by the end of August 2015.

“We are thrilled that we have the opportunity to add a high quality track facility to our community”, said Jason Peters, Director of Sport for the 2016 Host Society and City of Steinbach Rep.  “It has been lacking for many years, and we know that well beyond the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Games, the track will be important to Steinbach and the Southeast.”

The Power Smart Manitoba Games are the province's largest ongoing multi-sport program bringing together participants from across the province. The Games are held every two years and alternate between summer and winter sports events. Each set of Games involve upwards of 5,000 athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers. The next Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games will be held in Steinbach August 7 – 13, 2016.
